Dear Parents/Guardians,

We wanted to take the time to share with you my excitement for the upcoming year and for getting the opportunity to work with your child. Playing music is a rewarding, engaging, and collaborative experience. It’s a craft that must be practiced diligently, requires creativity, and forms a close, caring community; there is simply nothing else like it. We are honored to serve as your community’s music educator, and we promise to do my very best to help your child become a well-rounded musician and young adult.

High School is an incredibly formative time for young people. It is when many of us really start to figure out who we are as people, who we want to be, and what we want to do in life. As a result, you and your child will have key decisions to make that will have a long-term impact on their life. Many students believe that with rigorous academics and afterschool activities they will not have time to participate in the band program. This is simply not true. In fact, it is actually the participation in music that can act as a key contributor to success.

Every parent should know that:

  • Research shows that there is a strong correlation between the study of music and positive self-perception, healthy self-esteem, and high cognitive competence.

  • When music is a part of a student’s daily learning, reading, writing, and math scores improve.

  • The longer students study music, the higher their verbal and math scores tend to be on the SAT.

  • College admissions officers recognize the value of music and give special consideration to students who were active members of their high school music program.

  • Employers see participation in music programs as evidence that they are hard workers, problem solvers, and work well with others.

Your child deserves the very best education they can possibly get, and we believe music plays a crucial role in that. With a positive attitude and hard work, your child will walk away from this year with new skills and knowledge poised to propel them in any career. We are so excited for you as parents. We cannot wait to see how much your child grows this year!

If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to express your excitement too, please do not hesitate from sending us an email.

Sincerely,

Mr. Stewart and Mr. Julyan
